Apr 22, 2007 PVS

Actor Dhanush has moved a Chennai court seeking an order against releasing 'Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram" in which he played the lead role along with Meera Jasmine, till he is paid his remuneration by K.R. Infotainment which produced the film.

In his petition filed in the 3rd City Civil Court, Dhanush stated that he had asked for Rs 2 crore to act in the film and reduced it to Rs 1.75 crore at the request of the producer. He was informed that Raju Sundaram would be the director, but actually Suresh Krishna directed the film. In March 2006, the producer paid Dhanush Rs 50 lakh and promised to pay the balance amount of Rs 1.25 crore on completion of the film and before its release. (According to newspaper advertisements, the film is scheduled for release on April 26).

Dhanush further stated in the petition that as the film was about to the released, he pressed for payment, but the producer had not responded. When he approached the Nadigar Sangam (Artistes Association) a request was made to him on behalf of the producer for a further reduction of Rs 30 lakh to which he agreed. Even the reduced amount of Rs 95 lakh was yet to be paid to him. Attempts were being made to have someone else to replace him to do the voice dubbing, he alleged.

The petition came up for hearing before Justice Ethiraj on April 20 when counsel for the producer submitted that the petitioner had already been paid in full and no amount was outstanding. The judge directed the advocate to file a written counter and posted further hearing for April 23.
