Director Suresh Krishna is ready with his 50th film, 'Illangyan.' At a press conference in Binny Mills, Perambur, on Oct.20, 2010, the director said, 'The script of the film has been penned by CM Karunanidhi, his 75th film.


'Illangyan' is a period film, set in 1959, in Madras. The story revolves around a ship building factory and its workers. Pa. Vijay, lyricist plays the hero and the two heroines are Ramya Nambesan and Meera Jasmine. Other members of the cast are Kushboo, Nasser, Suman, Namitha, Delhi Ganesh and Vadivelu. Music is by Vidyasagar and lyrics by Pa. Vijay. There are five songs. Sanjay Loknath, son of cameraman B.S. Loknath is the DOP for the film.


According to the director, this is the first time in the history of Tamil cinema that a ship, 100ft. tall has been built for shooting. Designed by art director Thota Tharani, it took three months in the making.


'We could have gone to Vizag for shooting, but being a period film, the ships there were not suitable. We have shot several scenes on this ship including one scene with a thousand people,' said Suresh Krishna.


'The surprise element of the film is Pa Vijay's acting,' he added. The audio release is scheduled for December and the film is likely to be released in February.
