Audio launches held abroad seems to have become the latest trend in Tamil Cinema, but director-actor Sasi Kumar preferred a popular multiplex for the music launch of his film, ‘Easan.’ Making the event special was the presence of the guru of all, K. Balachandar and noted directors, Ramanarayanan, Bala and Ameer from Tamil Cinema, Ranjith from Malayalam Cinema, Yograj Bhat from Kannada Cinema as well as Anurag Kashyap from Bollywood. Telugu director Thrivikram could not make it to the function. Also present were actors Abhinaya, Aparna, Vaibhav and Samudrakani and lyricists, Na Muthukumar and Mohan Rajan.

Talking on the occasion, James Vasanthan music director of the film said, “There are five songs.” The song ‘Meyyana Inbam,’ is sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Benny Dayal and Sunandan. “When Sasi suggested Sukhwinder for the song, I had my own apprehensions. It was quite a challenge to make him sing in Tamil,” added James Vasanthan. For the second song, ‘Jilla vittu,’ James Vasanthan used a new voice, that of Selvi Aiyappan from Thanjavur. Selvi was introduced to the audience at the event. “I had composed this song for another film,” shared James. “But it was not selected in the movie. On the flight to Hyderabad for the Filmfare awards ceremony, I played this song to Sasi. He liked it immediately and told me to keep it for his film, as he had a situation apt for the song.” These two songs were screened for the audience.

About the song, Sugavasi, sung by Chinakuyil Chitra and Malgudi Shuba, James said, ‘Chitra cheechi has rendered the song in a child like voice.”

Sasi Kumar spoke how Anurag Kashyap expressed his desire to watch Subramaniyapuram when he called him after watching Kashyap’s Dev D. Sasi personally went to Mumbai with the film where Anurag helped him show the film to a wide range of audiences.

Anurag said that Subramaniapuram inspired him to make a film on his hometown. Besides, “I have also watched ‘Pasanga’ and ‘Naan Kadavul’ and like them too.
