Field day for producers of low-budget films

The decision of the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) to fix only eight days in a year for release of big-budget star-studded films has created an astounding impact helping producers of small-budget films.

Nine films films are releasing on a single day on Feb.10 (Friday). They are: 'Dhoni', 'Oru Nadigaiyin Vakkumoolam', 'Vilayadavaa', 'Oru Mazhai Nangu Charalgal' 'Soozhnilai', 'Rudhabhumi', 'Vachathi' and 'Yengada Unga Manthiri. Along with them, 'Uchithanai Mugurthal' also is hitting the screen.

More number of films_21_are being lined up for release during the course of this month after Feb10. Many of these films have remained in cans for months together for want of theatres. But for the TFPC decision, producers of small-budget films would not have found it easy to get theatres to release their films.

TFPC has now created a lot of space for these producers and they are free to release their films whenever theatres are available, including on those eight days earmarked for big-budget films. TheTFPC decision is aimed at creating a level-playing field for small- budget films.
