Film on 500-rupee note gets censor certificate

A low-cost offbeat film titled ‘500 x 5’has received the censor certificate and is releasing soon. The movie is about the journey of a 500-rupee note involving five characters and their reaction to that valuable piece of currency. The film starts off with a person borrowing Rs.500 from a pawnbroker and dropping the note, which then gets into circulation.

It is a public-funded venture executed by a four-member team at Accessible Horizon Films. The team comprises Raghu Jegannathan, Kousalya. J (architect, writer, designer and animator), Ramesh Mourthy (software developer) and Mohandass. R (mechanical engineer)

The film features five theatre actors from Chennai _ Deepak Sundarajan, Shankar.S, ‘Living Smile’ Vidya, Chinnu Kuruvilla and TM. Karthik Srinivasan. They are the main characters. Deepak plays the role of Sudalai, an assistant to a don.

The film has been shot in Anna Nagar, Saidapet, Villivakkam, Avadi and other locations in Chennai and also in Bangalore and Puducherry.

Raghu Jegannathan says the team wanted to do something that both the poor and the rich can relate to and a 500-rupee note is one such thing.

Finding that making a conventional film needed big financial backing, the team took up this venture with the available resources and cutting costs.
