'Ghajini' tops despite Diwali releases

Chennai, Nov 4 (IANS) Diwali releases have just come on in the theatres. Until now, it has been "Ghajini" and only "Ghajini". Even now, nobody expects the film to slide much. It may slip from the first and second positions, but will rock the box office for a long, long time!

The top five Tamil films are:

1. "Ghajini" (Dir. Murugadoss): The Tamil film industry has been in a recovery mode for quite some time. It was "Chandramukhi" that created box office records in recent times. This was followed by "Anniyan", and now "Ghajini", which is Surya's biggest hit so far. It has also made Asin the darling of Tamils.

2. "Mazhai" (Dir. Rajkumar): Unlike the highly successful original Telugu film "Varsham", this film, starring Jeyam Ravi and Shriya, is not a blockbuster but is doing average business everywhere. Shriya has benefited the most from "Mazhai", having been chosen as Rajnikanth's heroine for "Sivaji".

3. "Thottijaya" (Dir. Dorai): Overall, Silambarasan's first out and out action film "Thottijaya" is a bigger hit than "Mazhai", but it has been in the theatres for quite a few weeks.

4. "Chanakya" (Dir. A. Venkatesah): Sarat Kumar's 99th film is a hit. Now, his loyal fans are waiting for his 100th film.

5. "Oru Kallooriyin Kathai" (Dir. Nanda Periyasamy): Usually, love stories with the campus as the background work with the young. If the story is sweet, it will be even more successful. That is the reason behind this film's success.
