Harris tried to dominate, says Gautham

Director Gautham Menon says he was upset by the way his friend and music director Harris Jayaraj made public his decision to part ways with him and it is for Harris to state the real reasons for the break-up.

Gautham told a newspaper that he suddenly received a mail from Harris on the date of release of "Vaaranam Aayiram" just as the press got it. The last time he met Harris was for the background music for VA and Harris did not tell him anything. They could have talked it out but Harris chose to go public. The reasons he had given were not the real ones. Actual reasons for the break-up have not come out and it is for Harris to reveal them.

Admitting that when it comes to music, Harris is a genius, Gautham thinks the problem with him is"he tries to dominate". When they were working on "Khakha Khakha" Harris said that he would not be musically inspired by Surya (who played the lead role) and that this film would not work. But it worked. Similarly, Harris said "Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu" would not work. It worked. The only time he was right was when he said "Pachaikili Muthucharam" would not work and it did not.

Gautham says Harris would even talk to him about scripts and budgets. Difference of opinion cropped up over "Chennayil Oru Mazhaikalam" when Harris told him to think big, stop thinking small. "I don't like that. I am okay with suggestions, but I want to do what I believe in."
