Ilayaraja performs live at 'Dhoni' audio launch

Isaignani Ilayaraja performed live the music he has scored for Prakash Raj's 'Dhoni' at the film's audio launch in Chennai.



The maestro along with his 16-member orchestra performed all the numbers in the film.



This is the first time a Prakash Raj's film's audio launch was marked by Ilayaraja's live performance. An excited Prakash Raj expressed happiness that Ilayaraja had agreed to do this for 'Dhoni', for 'music plays an important role in it and the music maestro's gesture means a lot to me.'



The spectacular event was held at the Anna Centenary Library in Chennai on Jan.28. In his live concert Ilayaraja featured singers Haricharan and Naresh Iyer. He too sang one of his compositions to which he had gave voice in the soundtrack. The audience also witnessed a trailer.



Speaking at the function, Prakash Raj said Ilayaraja took just 45 minutes to compose five tunes for this film.'Ilayaraja's part is 80 per cent and my part is only 20 per cent,' he said.



'Dhoni', Prakash Raj's directorial debut in Tamil, speaks of the conflict of interest between father and son. It is an education-related movie of national interest.



Talking to reporters after the audio launch, Ilayaraja said it is the story that decides the kind of music it should have. 'Dhoni' has raised many questions on the country's education system, the economy, and society and brings those concerned with these matters under compulsion to answer them. The subject is of national interest. There is a message to ponder over, he said.



It was a spectacular event attended by K. Balachander, Balu Mahendra, K.S. Ravikumar, Vetri Maaran, Karu Pazhaniappan, Radhamohan, Jayam Ravi, Dharani, T. Siva, Parthepan and S.A. Chandrasekharan. Prakash Raj's wife Pony was also present.
