Ilayaraja's 1981 number for London Olympics opener
Jun 20, 2012 PGVA Tamil film song composed by music maestro Ilayaraja in the early 1980s finds place in the 90-track playlist for the opening ceremony of the London Olympics, which is just six weeks away.
The song is ‘Naanthaan Ungappanda’ sung by S.P. Balasubramanyam for the Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Ram Lakshman’ released in 1981.
It is not known if Ilayaraja himself will travel to London for the show.
An associate of the ‘Isaignani’ says it is a matter of surprise that this song, among his lesser-known compositions, has made it to the playlist for the London Olympics inaugural.
According to reports, ‘Slumdog Millionnaire’ fame Danny Boyle has conceptualized the opening ceremony, which would cost the organizers 27 million pounds.
The playlist also includes a song by Mathangi ‘Maya’ Arulpragasam, a Sril Lankan Tamil descent. She is a British recording artiste and songwriter.
