K. Balachandar's Poi release on Sept.28

K. Balachandar's "Poi" featuring Uday Kiran and a new face Vimala Raman is releasing on September 28. Producer Prakash Raj has tied up with Oscar Films to distribute the film.

Balachandar returns to Tamil Cinema after a long gap with this bilingual film which is his 101st.

The release of "Poi" is awaited eagerly as it has raised great expectations like all Balachandar's movies in the past. He has introduced many new faces through his films. Yet another new face introduced in his "Poi" is 23-year-old Vimala Raman who is an ex-model and Bharathanatyam artiste, who lives in Australia with her parents and brother.

When Balachandar selected Vimala to play opposite Uday Kiran in "Poi", she was excited and told media persons that Balachandar liked her expressions during their first meeting. He had watched Vimala host a Bharathanatyam show on Jaya TV - Thak-Ka-Thimi-Tha . After she met him he seemed to be convinced that she was the right person for 'Poi'.

''Poi' means lies and the film projects the consequences of telling lies and half-truths.

Vimala, the debutant actress, said "Oh! There is a lot of emotion in the movie and K. Balachandar's experience brings out the essence of my role." She owes her acting capability to the director's guidance. He has taught me a lot about acting. The handling of subjects by the doyen film-maker is just amazing and that's experience, she added.

Vimala won the crown of Miss India Australia as well as Miss India Australia Cyberqueen title in 2004. Australia India Business Chamber conferred on her the honour of being the Youth Ambassador. She also won the Miss Beautiful Face at the Miss India Worldwide Pageant in the USA where she represented Australia.

Vimala started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of five and has performed around the globe from America to Australia. She has 140 stage programmes to her credit.

She took to modeling for fun and it has taken her places. Her first love is always being dancing, she said.

India which has been her holidaying spot has now become her work spot.
