Kamal was heard in-camera in Dasavatharam case

Actor Kamal Haasan, on summons, appeared before the First Bench of the Madras High Court consisting of Chief Justice A.P.Shah and Justice P. Jyothimani on Aug.9 and answered the judges' queries with regard to the dispute over the story of 'Dasavatharam', now under production, during in-camera proceedings which lasted over 15 minutes.


Appellant Senthil Kumar of Tambaram was also heard in-camera for 15 minutes. Senthil Kumar had filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking a stay on the film which features Kamal in ten roles, on the grounds that the movie was based on his story and the respondents, including producer Oscar Ravichandran, failed to keep their promise to make him an assistant director for the film.


The High Court granted an interim stay on Jan.20 last. On Kamal Haasan's appeal against this order, Justice Ramasubramanian vacated the stay on April 10. Admitting Senthil Kumar's appeal against vacating the stay, the First Bench had directed Senthil Kumar and Kamal to submit their respective stories translated into English. Both had complied with the court's directive. Following this Chief Justice Shah and Justice Jyothimani had issued summons to Kamal and Senthil Kumar to appear in person on Aug.9 Senthil Kumar's appeal was taken up in the morning, and following arguments by lawyers from both sides, the judges held in-camera proceedings in their chambers in the afternoon. Only Counsel for Kamal and Senthil Kumar were allowed to be present during these proceedings. Later, the judges adjourned the case till Aug.13 Members of the public and High Court employees had gathered in large numbers to have a glimpse of Kamal. He parried mailpersons' questions and told them to meet his lawyer.
