
'Karnan's' 100th day celebration on June 23
Jun 12, 2012 PGVSivaji Ganesan’s much hailed mythological film ‘Karnan', which was technologically updated and re-released on March 16 last, is celebrating its 100th day on June 23. The original movie hit the screens 51 years ago.
The latest version with digital enhancements and restored audio has been running to packed houses at 72 centres, including Chennai ( nine theatres), Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Nageroil.
Sivaji Ganesan played Kunti’s first son Karnan (Mahabharata’s Pandava clan) and Sandhya, (mother of Chief Minister Jayalalitha) acted as the mother of Karnan.
Shanti Chockalingam of Divya Films released the modern version of the film. It was reworked over of a period of three years by a team of fans of Nadigar Thilagam , led by Chockalingam, at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh. The original audio and video was restored with improved colours and sound effects but retaining the aesthetic quality of the original.
The team plans to invite Chief Minister Jayalalitha for the 100th day celebrations on June 23 organised in honour of her mother Sandhya. Children of all the artistes of the film will also be felicitated at the function.
