'Kathalil Vizhundaen' irks producers

Oct 22, 2008 NR

The recently released Kathalil Vizhundaen had been facing opposition from various quarters even before it was released. There were pressures on exhibitors not to release the film in their theatres, and in Madurai things took such a turn that the film couldn't be released when it was released in the other centres.

All this because the film was taken up for distribution by the newly formed Sun Pictures, which made the Sun Group rise in protest against the film.

The latest trouble that the film is into is that many small-time producers have joined hands in filing a complaint with the Tamil Film Producers' Council, demanding that action be taken against the Sun TV group for backing the film with an aggressive ad campaign that has had no precedence. (The channels under the Sun TV umbrella have been giving excessive promotion to the film at all levels).

In the Producers' Council meeting in which the issue propped up, there were many producers demanding action against the Sun Group, and as many supporting the Sun Group, which stood by its stand that it has every right to promote its film.

The Producers' Council seems to have been caught in a dilemma and has decided to deliberate on the issue in its next meeting. So, what is next in the line for Kathalil Vizhundaen.
