'Maatraan' teaser trailer released

Jul 17, 2012 PGV

Director K.V. Anand’s ‘Maatraan’ teaser trailer has been released. It highlights the twin characters that Suriya plays in the film. The fun-loving nature of Vimalan and Akhilan, born conjoined twins, and how the public looks upon them is its theme with humour as its underpinning.

Anand, who is currently working on patch-work, says the teaser trailer that has been released was one of the three made ready. One had aerial shots of locations in Russia and Chennai and another showed Suriya performing stunts. These two were not used because the trailer on locations would not convey the theme and the other would make the film look like an action thriller. Finally they chose the third trailer, which focused on the Suriya characters.

Talking to mediapersons, Suriya said ‘Maatraan’ is Anand’s baby and the director used him to create it. He had heard the story three years ago. “I play Vimalan and Akhilan, who are Siamese twins. This dual role was a challenge to my acting skills. We can say these twins are differently-abled. The film portrays them as ‘Deivapiravigal’. Through them a message also is being conveyed. After the film’s release, this message will become a talking point. Paying encomium to Anand, Suriya said the director’s hardwork and dedication amazed him.

Anand, who was with Suriya, said doing the dual role by Suriya in ‘Maatraan’ is equal to acting in four films, for the actor had to put in so much of effort into it. Akhilan is ideologically leftist to the core and Vimalan is a guy for whom life is fun. The latest technology has been used to shoot the scenes featuring the two contrasting characters of the conjoined twins, Anand said.

The film produced by Kalpathi S. Aghoram, S. Ganesh and S. Suresh for AGS Entertainment, has, besides Suriya, Kajal Aggarwal, Isha Sharvani, Vivek and Sachin Khadekar in the cast.
