Director Mani Ratnam has changed the title of his new film from 'Pookadai' to 'Kadal' (sea). This is his second film after 'Ravanan' (Tamil and Hindi). When he announced the project, he had made it clear that 'Pookadai' was only a tentative name.

Actor Karthik's son Gautham, a new face, is playing the lead role in 'Kadal'. Playing opposite him is Samantha. Arjun and Arvind Swamy are doing important characters. Telugu actor Mohan Babu's daughter Lakshmi Manchu and Thambi Ramaiah are among others in the cast.

The story has a fishing hamlet in the South as the epicenter. The Sri Lankan Navy's brutal attacks on Tamil Nadu fishermen and their boats on high seas and protests and agitations against these continuing attacks will be depicted in 'Kadal'.

Mani Ratnam's production house, Madras Talkies, produces the film.

A.R. Rahman scores the music. Rajiv Menon is the cinematographer. Poet-lyricist Vairamuthu and his son Madan Karky have written the songs.

'Kadal' is to be made in Telugu also. Actress Samantha told mediapersons that it is a love story. She will participate in the shooting on Feb.11. 'It's dream come true for me,' Click the Movie button below for more info:
