Mani Ratnam selects Samantha for 'Pookadai'

Director Mani Ratnam has finally selected Samantha to play opposite Karthik's son Gautham in 'Pookadai'. This is her first film in Tamil.

According to Samantha's spokesperson, Mani Ratnam signed on Samantha a month ago for the lead in his film.

'Pookadai', said to be a rural flick set in the backdrop of a coastal village, will go on floors on Feb.1.

Unit sources say the pre-production work is progressing and Mani has drawn up a 40-day schedule for filming the scenes in and around the coastal town of Muttom near Kanyakumari.

Arjun, Pasupathy and Lakshmi Manchu will be playing important roles in the film, which will have music by A.R. Rahman.
