Mani Ratnam's 'Kadal' budget is Rs. 50 crore

Filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s ‘Kadal’ is being made on a huge budget of Rs.50 crore, confirms writer B. Jeyamohan.

The combined cost of production of the three versions of the veteran director’s last film ‘Ravanan’ was only Rs.100 crore. Compared to this, spending Rs.50 crore on ‘Kadal’ being shot in a rural setting, casting a new lead pair, shows Mani is uncompromising on quality.

Jeyamohan says the Rs.50-crore budget gives them a lot of creative freedom while scripting for such a film.

Karthik’s son Gautham and Radha’s younger daughter Tulasi Nair make their debut in the film. Arvind Swamy, Arjun, Pasupathy and Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna play key roles. A.R. Rahman is the composer while Rajeev Menon is the cinematographer.

The songs are now being picturised in Andaman. The unit will return to Kerala and the film will be wrapped up, according to unit sources.

This is the first time such a big budget film is being made with new faces like Gautham and Tulasi in the lead, it is said. Click the Movie button below for more info:
