'Naanga' is a film of the youth and for the youth

Director Selva's 25th film titled 'Naanga' is touted as a film of the youth and for the youth. Going by the tagline "We don't remember days, we only remember memories," the film is apparently aimed at the youth but the director affirms all age groups can relate to it as most of them have had cherishable memories of their old days back in their educational institutions. It is scheduled for release on March 9.

The story covers the period 1985_2011.It is about five friends, and the screenplay is in five parts each helmed by each of the five heroes. According to Selva, it is like five short stories put together. But all the stories are connected to one another. The characters are, however, common to all segments.

Interestingly, 'Naanga' has a whole lot of new faces, all children of film personalities. Those making their debut as lead characters in this film are Santhana Bharathi's son Sanjay Krishna, actor Aditya's son Nivas, music director Vasu Rao's son Muneesh, production executive Gurusamy's son Vinod and film distributor Chandrasekhar's son Uday. Singer Mano's son Shakir plays the negative role. Producer Swaminathan's son Ashwin Raja is the comedian (he played the gluttonous student in the comedy flick 'Boss Engira Bhaskaran' starring Arya and Santhanam.)

As for the opposite sex, excepting Kasturi who is the main character in one of the five parts, the other heroines are debutantes (Vishnupriya, Shivani, Vaidegi and Arasi.).

Balabharathi is the music composer.

'Naanga' has taken quite a long time to complete, as the story spans 25 years and the heroes needed to have the looks that match their evolving characters, it is explained.

With all the new faces, Selva has found the marketing of the film a tough job. He has now planned a weeklong road show in Chennai, Tiruchi, Coimbatore, Salem and Madurai, door-to-door distribution of pamphlets and canvassing for viewership.
