Ace director Mani Ratnam may introduce Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor to Tamil cinema through his new project tentatively titled 'Pookadai', according to reports.

The buzz in the industry is that Sonam, daughter of Anil Kapoor, has given her consent to be the female lead in the film, which will be her first ever-regional venture.

If the deal gets through, Sonam will play opposite debutant Gautham who is the son of the yesteryear actor Karthik.

Anil Kapoor had acted in Mani Ratnam's directorial debut, 'Pallavi Anupallavi'. If the reports are to be believed, it is Anil who persuaded her daughter to give her nod, telling her that as acting in a regional film would help her get good experience and exposure.

However, for her part, Sonam is quoted as saying that she has the highest regard for Mani Ratnam considering he had made his debut with her father.

Asked about the reports emanating both from Bollywood and Kollywood, she told a newspaper that she would soon be acting in a good film and it is yet to be decided if it would be a Tamil film.

Mani Ratnam 's last film was 'Raavan' starring Vikram and Aiswarya Rai.
