Chennai, Sep 6 (IANS) It is after a long gap that noted Malayalam director Fazil has come out with a Tamil film. The film "Oru Naal Oru Kanavu" did not set the box office on fire, but it can boast of a decent opening.

That it managed to oust "Anniyan" from the top, at least in the first week, is something to cheer about. Here are the top five:

1. "Oru Naal Oru Kanavu" (Dir. Fazil): Not a huge box-office success but is doing average business commercially. The success of the film will be crucial for young actor Srikanth. Its chances may improve with good word-of-mouth publicity.

2. "Anniyan" (Dir. Shankar): Vikram said in an interview that he knew this film would be a success but not on this scale! "Anniyan's" success in all the southern states has indeed surprised the actor.

3. "Dass" (Dir. Babu Yogeswaran): Jeyam Ravi can now proudly say he has scored a hat trick at the box office. After "Jeyam" and "M. Kumaran, Son of Mahalakshmi", "Dass" is also a hit.

4. "ORU KALLURIYIN KADHAI " (Dir. Nandha Periasamy): Young Arya is said to be the next big thing that has happened to Tamil films. After the unexpected success of "Ullam Kettukume" and "Arindum", expectations were high from his new film. "Arya" did not disappoint, but the film did.

5. "Chandramukhi" (Dir. P. Vasu): After the huge success of "Chandramukhi", Rajnikanth has decided not to go into hibernation but act in more films.
