Pandiaraj's 'Marina' to help social causes

The audio launch of 'Marina' directed by Pandiaraj on Jan.9 by the beach side was marked by anday-long campaign to clean up the Marina. The film's crew members cleared the garbage strewn on the beach. Art director Crawford believes it will create an awareness among the residents along the coastline to realize the importance of keeping it clean.

'Marina' is Pandiaraj's second after his award winning movie 'Pasanga'. The featuring of kids selling 'sundal' on the beach in this film is one of the highlights.

What motivated Pandiaraj to make such a film? He once met a little boy from Ramanathapuram who was selling 'sundal' on the beach. The boy told Pandiaraj that he had to work to settle his father's debt and could not afford education.

The film's crew was on the beach for over four months, studying the lives of the poor 'sundal' boys, most of who are from southern districts of Tamil Nadu.

Pandiaraj said he is planning to educate such children and clear some of their debts with the profit he makes from this movie.

'Marina' is not all about the hapless kids, but it also portrays aged beggars who have made the beach their home. It is a realistic and emotional portrayal of different characters and different worlds. Comedy spices up the narration.

Produced by Pasanga Productions, 'Marina' has Siva Karthikeyan, Oviya and Jayaprakash in the cast. Krish G. is the music director. Vijay is the debutant cameraman.

A promo song written by Na. Muthukumar glorifies Chennai. Actors Vikram, Prakash Raj, Vimal and Sneha along with directors Ameer and Sasikumar do lip-syncing to the number 'Vaazha Vaikkum Chennai'.
