'Pithamagan' goes to Bollywood

It's official now. Director Bala's offbeat Tamil project 'Pithamagan' is going to be remade in Hindi. 'Pithamagan', which had Vikram, Suriya, Laila and Sangeetha in the lead roles, fetched Vikram the National Award for Best Actor in the year 2004 for his portrayal of a graveyard caretaker.

Producer and director Satish Kaushik, who had earlier made 'Tere Naam', which was also a remake of a Bala hit, 'Sethu', has purchased the remake rights of this film too. The film maker confirms the news, "I saw 'Pithamagan', a long time ago and wanted to remake the film in Hindi. I loved Vikram's performance." Is it true that Hrithik Roshan and Saif Ali Khan will take on Vikram and Suriya's roles in the Hindi version? "I'm yet to zero in on the star cast. I'm still tweaking the script so that it appeals to the Hindi movie audience," says Satish.

He also adds that he has a fascination for south Indian films, which is why he loves to remake them. "My films, 'Tere Naam', 'Hum Aapke Dil Main Rehte Hain', 'Hamaara Dil Aapke Paas Hai' and 'Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai' are remakes of south Indian films and were well received at the box office. Though the subject of 'Pithamagan' is offbeat, the remake has the potential to be a successful film. Even the Tamil version did well at the BO," he says. Click the Movie button below for more info:
