The release of K. Balachandar's "Poi", an unusual love story featuring an upcoming Telugu hero Uday Kiran and a new face Vimala Raman, originally scheduled for September 28 has been delayed and it is expected that it would hit the screens around Deepavali time. Producer Prakash Raj has tied up with Oscar Films to distribute the film.

This is Balachandar's 101st directorial venture.

Besides Uday Kiran and debutant Vimala Raman, Poi stars Geethu Mohandas and K Balachandar himself.

Balachandar says, ' It would be a youthful entertainer sure to attract people of the present generation.' It will be trendy and sure to appeal to youth, and meet the expectations of the MTV generation.' On working with Balachandar, the newcomer Vimala says, 'I could not have asked for more. As the title connotes, it's a love story with false lines attached to it as strings.

Cinematographer P G Viswanath makes his debut in Tamil along with lyricist Dr.Kridaya. Producer Prakash Raj says, the subject is fresh and you will find the magnetic touch of KB in every frame. Coming after a long break, the movie has been looked forward to by the industry. It should be a visual treat for the fans and the wait will be worth it,' he added.

Vidyasagar scored the music and the audio of the film was launched about six months ago. Now, Ravichandran plans to re-launch the audio, prior to the release of the film with great fanfare.

PREVIEW FOR KARUNANIDHI FAMILY: Last week, there was a sneak preview of "Poi" exclusively for Chief Minister Karunanidhi and his family. After seeing the film, the Chief Minister wrote in his party paper Mursoli praising the film and saying that he was always a great admirer of KB and his films.
