Rajini shows interest in Munnabhai sequel in Tamil

Superstar Rajinikanth has been approached by Gemini Film Circuit, which has bought the rights to remake Hindi blockbuster "Lage Raho Munnabhai" starring Sanjay Dutt and Vidya Balan, in both Tamil and Telugu, according to media reports.

This Hindi film is a sequel to "Munnabhai MBBS" ( Kamal-starrer "Vasoolraja, MBBS" in Tamil).

Gemini Film Circuit has has paid a whopping Rs. 10 crore and clinched the deal against stiff competition from other big producers in the Tamil film industry.

When Rajinikanth was sounded by the producers to play the lead role in the Tamil version of the Hindi movie, the superstar reportedly showed interest. And, on his request, a special screening of the film has been arranged at one of the preview theatres in Chennai.

Telugu matinee idol Chiranjeevi, is said to be keen on acting in the Telugu version of "Lage Raho Munnabhai". Chiranjeevi had wanted to make the film himself in association with Allu Arjuna. Since Rajini films, Tamil and Telugu combined, command an estimated Rs. 100 crore-market, the producers are seriously considering whether to bring out the Telugu version with Chiranjeevi separately.

Meanwhile, the shooting of the much-hyped Rajini-starrer "Sivaji" under the banner of AVM, is progressing. Rajini has developed a shoulder pain while shooting an action scene at Hyderabad under stunt choreographer Peter Hayes. This has delayed the filming of the lead to the climax action sequence. Nearly 75 per cent of the shooting has been completed. Some important scenes were shot at AVM Studios. The film is expected to be ready in December and released on Tamil New Year's Day (April14)

Director Shankar plans to shoot a song sequence or a scene in Japan where Rajini has a huge fan following. Some portions of the film will be shot in the US also.

Shankar has approached Amitabh Bachchan to play the role of Rajini's helpful boss in the film and Amitabh's response is awaited.

Asin and Nayanthara play opposite Rajini and Asin has been preferred to Nayanthara to do the opening song in "Sivaji" with Rajini. Both the actresses wanted to do this song, but eventually Nayanthara has lost to Asin. .
