Rajnikanths Baasha going to Bollywood

Rajnikanth's 'Baasha' going to Bollywood

Apr 22, 2011 PS

When director Suresh Krishna's 'Baasha', starring Rajnikanth in the lead, hit screens in 1995, it became a rage among Kollywood audiences. The star's mannerism and punch-lines were widely accepted by his fans and catapulted Rajni to the top. Immediately, the film's remake rights were acquired by a prominent Bollywood producer, who wanted to make the film in Hindi with Rajni's good friend, Amitabh Bachchan. But things didn't materialise then. However, now, producer Badrakali Vara Prasad Rao is all set to re-release the film in Hindi and audiences can see a 'more-colourful' Superstar.

Says Prasad Rao, "It's true that 'Baasha' was supposed to have been remade with Amitabh Bachchan as soon as the original released in 1995. But, Bachchan sir jumped into politics and somehow, the film never got made. I purchased the remake and dubbing rights from the producer before Rajni's 'Endhiran' released in Hindi as 'Robot'. Rajni enjoys superstardom in both Tamil and Hindi film industries. I think this is the best time for me to re-release the Hindi version of his 'Baasha'." Prasad Rao has spent a whopping amount, on colour-correcting the film. "I've done colour restoration and DI correction for the film, revamped new intermediate negative and have included new graphics for the title card. The original was screened with mono sound, but the new version will have stereo sound and 5.1 channels. Music director Deva, who composed the original score, has re-recorded for the Hindi version. The audience will get to see a fresh, new 'Baasha', Rajni style," he says.

Prasad Rao is also planning to launch the audio of the Hindi version by the first week of May. "I will be approaching Superstar Rajnikanth to launch the album. The film will release all over the world by the end of May. I'm also trying to release the new version in Tamil and Telugu as well, but I still need to acquire the rights," he states.
