Ramarajan on comeback trail

Actor Ramarajan is on a comeback trail after being in wilderness for years. At a time when he is almost forgotten, a film offer has come his way.

He will do the hero in the film titled "Medhai" to be directed by N.T.G. Saravanan, a former associate of director Hari.

Mallu girl Jyothirmayi is set to share the screen space with Ramarajan. Vadivelu is also in the cast.

Ramarajan told mediapersons that he is rearing to go.

Considered as the man of the rural audiences, he was nicknamed "vasool chakravathi" Many of his films based on village-based subjects were a big hit in B and C centres. . His films include "Karagaattakkaaran" (1989), "Raasave Unnai Nambi" (1988), "Engs Ooru Paattukkaaran" (1987) and "Namma Oorkkaaran"(2007). Ilayaraja's music was what made these films a big draw. "Karagattakkaaran" ran for more than a year in a Madurai theatre. The Koundamani-Senthil duo was the permanent fixutre in Ramarajan's films.

Hailing from Melur, a small town near Madurai, he had a humble beginning. At the zenith of his film career he decided to turn a producer. This new venture proved him costly. The divorce with his actress wife Nalini could not have come a worse time.

He had a taste of politics too. He joined AIADMK and was elected to the Lok Sabha from Tiruchendur in 1998. He has since faded away from public memory.

His fortunes may hopefully be revived with "Medhai".
