The Tamil Film Producers Council has revised its decision that allows release of mega films only on five festival days and public holidays_Pongal, Tamil New Year's Day, May Day, Independence Day and Deepavali. The TFPC has now allowed releases of such films on three more days_one day each in March, June and December. Mega films can now be released on eight days in a year.

Producers of low-budget films had been complaining that they were finding it difficult to get theatres to release their films, whereas producers of big-budget films were able to release their movies on any day as availability of theatres was not a problem for them.

TFPC had considered their problems and fixed five festival days and holidays for release of big-budget films, so small producers could get theatres easily.

Following representations from producers of big budget films TNFC has now increased the number of release days for them from five to eight.
