Sakthi against Directors Association elections
Sep 25, 2008 PVSDirector R.C. Sakthi has come out against holding of elections to the posts of office-bearers of the Directors Association pending disposal of his petition against the election of Bharathirajaa as president of the association.
The election to the post of president of the association was held two months ago. R.C. Sakthi filed his nomination opposing the candidature of Bharathirajaa. But Sakthi's nomination was rejected and Bharathirajaa was declared elected. Sakthi has moved court challenging the election of Bharathirajaa.
Even as this petition is pending disposal, Bharathirajaa has announced that elections to the posts of vice-president, secretary and treasurer would be held on Oct. 12. In a letter to the association members, Bharathirajaa has said nominations would be accepted from Sept.25.
Taking strong exception to Bharathirajaa's action, R.C. Sakthi says that while the election of Bharathirajaa itself is in dispute, his announcing elections to the posts of vice-president, secretary and treasurer is against all rules and norms. In his petition, he has sought a fresh election for the presidentship under the supervision of the High Court and the court which has heard his petition has fixed Sept.29 for delivering the judgment. In the circumstances, Bharathirajaa has no right to conduct the elections to the posts of vice-president, secretary and treasurer. This action of Bharathirajaa amounts to "contempt of court", Sakthi contends. He is filing a case in this regard in a City civil court.
