Samantha explains why she quit 'Kadal'

Actress Samantha has twitted that she quit Mani Ratnam’s project ‘Kadal’ only because of the dates problem. This is her first comment on the reports that she dropped out of the project. Mani Ratnam had cast her as the heroine opposite new comer Gautham (son of actor Karthik). One report said she opted out before the shooting of her portion started. Another report contradicted this and said some scenes featuring her and Gautham have been canned.

Samantha said her opting out of the film was unexpected and a big loss for her. She refuted reports put out by the film unit. According to these reports, Mani Ratnam and cinematographer Rajiv Menon watched the rushes of the film and found that Samantha was no match for Gautham in terms of looks. While Gautham is 19 years old, Samantha looked older. This was the reason why Samantha had to be replaced with former actress Radha’s younger daughter and ‘Ko’ Karthika’s sister Tulasi. Samantha maintained that she had to quit only because of the dates problem.
