'Samar' director Thiru in upbeat mood

Director Thiru is in an upbeat mood as his action adventure ‘Samar’ starring Vishal and Trisha, is about to be canned. What remains to be shot is the climax and two songs. Thiru expects it will hit the screens next month or early September.

Vishal last worked with Thiru on ‘Veerada Vilayattu Pillai’. Thiru’s second film with Vishal was titled ‘Samaran’ (warrior) in September last year. After finding that someone else had already registered this title, it was changed to ‘Samar’ (War).

Thiru gave himself four months to complete the project, but what caused the delay was that he was keen to have Manoj Bajpayee on board. Thiru could narrate the story to him only after waiting for three months. Language posed a big problem to Manoj who expressed his doubts whether he could give his one hundred per cent. However, when he heard the climax, he agreed to be part of the film. ‘Samar’ is Manoj’s first Tamil film. He replaced Prakash Raj who was the initial choice for the role, but he dropped out because of the delay in the project taking off. Similarly, Sneha Ullal was supposed to play a prominent role, which eventually went to Sunaina. J.D. Chankravarthy plays a supporting role. Both Manoj and Chakravarthy are critical to the storyline.

According to Thiru, the action-packed entertainer revolves around the travails of a forest trekking guide (Vishal). He is forced to leave for Bangkok in unforeseen circumstances. On the foreign soil he happens to see a series of eerie incidents. He is caught unawares. When he finds himself in a fix, Trisha enters. An Indian girl working there, Trisha meets Vishal. How he comes out of the nightmarish situation is the climax.

Thiru is delighted to have Manoj in his team. Describing him as a thorough professional, the director says it is a joy to work him. On the first day of shoot in Bangkok, several scenes had to be shot on the 60th floor of a hotel. Manoj, who suffers from virtigo, was on the 60th floor in 10 minutes!. This is Manoj’s commitment and professionalism, says Thiru. Click the Movie button below for more info:
