Shankar's surprise in 'Sivaji'

Apr 26, 2007 PVS

It has become common for some directors to make brief appearances in their films in some scenes. K.S. Ravikumar is one of them. For the first time director Shankar too has done this in the Rajini-starrer "Sivaji: the Boss" due for release on May 17.

Shankar appears in a dance scene in "Sivaji" for a fleeting moment (just 40 seconds). In an interview to a Tamil daily, Shankar himself disclosed this and said, "I am not an actor, and director Shankar would never select actor Shankar. I know only to direct and not to act. I will make any actor, whether experienced or new, act as situations demand in a story. I cannot act myself. Just for fun, I pop up in a dance scene in "Sivaji".

Meanwhile, spiritually-inclined Rajinikanth left for the Himalayas on April 26 on his annual pilgrimage. His itinerary includes Badrinath, Kedarnath and Rishikesh. He normally goes to the Himalayas in April every year to offer worship at the temples on the snow-covered mountains, do meditation in quiet solitude and walk long distances in serene atmosphere. He has adopted Raghavendra Swami, Ramana Maharishi and Baba as his spiritual gurus. He returns to Chennai on May 16, a day before the release of "Sivaji".

A prominent Tamil daily serialized the superstar's life story in 112 parts from Nov.13, 2006 to April 19. Two days ago he gave a special interview to the newspaper. Replying to the pointed questions on "Sivaji", Rajini would only say that the expectations are no doubt growing and the film would certainly meet the expectations.

About director Shankar, he said, after K. Balachander, who was his mentor, "Shankar is No.1 director"; he is not only a wonderful director, but also concerned about the country, society and the people whose welfare is always working on his mind. He is one who thinks and feels for them.

When his attention was drawn to the astrological predictions that whether he would take to spirituality full-time or enter politics would be determined after Aug.4 (when Saturn changes places), Rajini said "he is riding the horse of time" and he could not predict where this horse would take him. Whatever be his destiny, he would work without selfishness and self-interest and at the same time without giving up his individuality and self-respect.
