Sivakasi Jayalakshmi, who was offered a role in "Pazhaniappa Kalloori" produced by Prabhakaran of Anbalaya Films, pulled out at the last minute, the producer, told mediapersons.

Thirty-year-old Jayalakshmi, who had been in dire straits following a narcotics case against her and eventually absolved by court a year ago, captured the media attention again after it was announced that she would be cast in "Pazhaniappa Kalloori". She was to have played the role of a belle running a teashop outside the college.

She came to the sets on the first day of the shooting of the film at Thirukkadaiyur. Media sensationalized her presence at the location with reports that she would play a seductress delivering titillating dialogues. But Prabhakaran said these reports were contrary to the fact. "Maybe Jayalakshmi saw these reports and became reticent," Prabhakaran said. She sought a day's time to talk to her "Chithi" and told him that she would come for the shooting the next day. Prabhakaran offered her Rs. 50,000 in advance but she declined it. Prabhakaran then asked her to come the next day for the shooting and gave her Rs 5,000 to meet expenses.

Prabharakaran said Jayalakshmi failed to turn up the next day and actress Shakeela took her place and the shooting was completed as scheduled. Had the shooting been postponed he would have incurred a loss of Rs 1.5 lakh, he added.

According to Prabhakaran, when Jayalakshmi came to Thirukadaiyur she looked very simple and did not display any ostentation and told Prabhakaran that she lived alone in a remote village without electricity.

Prabhakaran has not met her since. She has returned the Rs 5,000 to him through someone, he said.
