Stunt master Jaguar Thankam makes film with son

One of the top stunt masters of Kollywood Jaguar Thankam makes his debut as director with a film titled "Surya' features his son Vijaya Chiraajeevi as the hero. Keerti Chawla and Nepa are heroines.


The shooting has been completed and post-production work is under way. The film is expected to be released soon.


The cast includes Vijayakumar, Bose Venkat, Mayilsamy, Ponnambalam, Muthukaalai and T.P. Gajendran.


Music director Jerome Pushaparaj has composed the tunes for 26 days in Hong Kong and 36 days in Mumbai. He is now busying with re-recording work


In his career spanning 30 years, Jaguar Thankam has worked for 550 films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. Among them were the films starring Kamal Haasan, Sarathkumar, Sathyaraj, Vijay, Ajith, Surya and S.J. Suryah.


"Surya" is the stunt master's first film which he is directing and producing under the banner of J.V.R. Moviemakers.


The storyline is that the hero, Vijaya Chiranjeevi, who hails from a village in Thuthukudi, comes to Chennai to meet relatives. In the City, he happens to meet the villain (played by Jackrase) in a situation that pits one against the other. The villain, who has gone unchallenged and reigned supreme, is made to bite the dust by the protagonist with his prowess in "Varma kalai"(Kerala martial art).


Chiranjeevi has won four black-belts in karate. He is also good at Silambattam gymnastics and kung fu.


In "Surya", 1000 real karate fighters and 200 kung fu artistes are featured in the stunt scenes in the climax. One of the fights involving Chiranjeevi has been shot in Hollywood style using 46 cameras. The shooting of this particular scene took 12 days, according to Jaguar Thankam.


Since stunts are given importance in the film, Jaguar Thankam has introduced his son as the hero. In some of the stunts Chiranjeevi has risked his life, he says. Thankam plans to felicitate more than 20 men who got injured in the stunts.
