Tamil actress S.N. Lakshmi passes way

Eighty-five-year-old Tamil actress S.N. Lakshmi passed away on Monday evening in Chennai. She was known for playing mother and grandmother roles.


A native of Virudhunagar, she started her career as a stage artiste and acted with N.S. Krishnan, Sahasranam and others. She also started her own drama company. She had 6,000 dramas to her credit. Later she entered cinema and acted with several top stars, including M.G. Ramachandran, Sivaji Ganesan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. She had acted in nearly 1,500 films, besides several TV serials.


She was a recipient of the State Government's 'Kalaimamani' and 'Kalaiselvam' awards.


Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, in her condolence message, said Lakhshi's death was a great loss to the film world.


A large number of actors and actresses and other film personalities visited Lakshmi's house at Virugambakkam in Chennai and paid their last respects.
