Tamil Nadu State awards for 2005 and 2006 announced

Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have been chosen as the best actors for the years 2005 and 2006 respectively for Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, according to an official release. While Rajinikanth won the best actor award for his performance in the blockbuster movie "Chandramukhi" (2005), Kamal Haasan got the honour for "Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu" (2006).


Jothika, who portrayed the role of a split personality in "Chandramukhi" was adjudged the best actress for 2005. Priya Mani won the best actress award for 2006 for her effective portrayal of a lively rural girl in "Paruthi Veeran".


The best films were P. Vasu-directed "Chandramukhi" (2005) and "Veyil" (2006).


The award winners were selected by a committee, headed by Justice S. Mohan and included veteran film director S.P. Muthuraman and actors Shivakumar, Charuhaasan, Manorama and Sripriya, dirctor P.Amirtham, lyricist Kavignar Mu. Metha, music director Deva and Y.G. Mahendran.. The committee viewed 48 films for 2005 and 44 for 2006 and sent the list of awardees to the State Government which announced it on Sept.6.


The list for 2005:


Best film: Chandramukhi, Gajini (First prize), Anniyan (second), Thavamai Thavamirunthu (third), Priyasaki (special), Kasthuri Maan (special category for glorifying womanhood).


Best actor: Rajinikanth (Chandramukhi)


Best actress: Jothika (Chandramukhi)


Best actors (special): Vijay (Thirupachi), Surya (Gajini), Meera Jasmine (Kasthuri Maan)


Best villain: Prakash Raj


Best comedian:Vivek


Best director: Shankar (Anniyan)


Best music director: Harris Jayaraj


Best playback singers: Sriram Parthasarathy, Mumbai Jayashree.


The list for 2006:


Best film: Veyil (first prize) Paruthi Veeran (second prize), Thiruttu Payale (third), Ilakkanam (special), Kadale En Kadale (special award for glorifying womanhood).


Best actor: Kamal Haasan (Vettaiyadu Vilayadu)


Best actress: Priya Mani (Paruthi Veeran)


Best actors (special): Karthi (Paruthi Veeran), Fakru (Dishyum), Sandhya (Dishyum)


Best Villain: Pasupathi (E)


Best comedian: Vadvelu (Imsai Arasan 23am Puliksi)


Best director: Thirumurugan (Em Magan)


Best music director: Yuvan Shankar Raja


Best playback singers: Madhu Balakrishnan and Shreya Goshal


Special Awards:


Anna award: Director Rama Narayanan


Kalaignar award: Vivek


Raja 'sando' award: Director Thankar Bachan


Pavendar Bharathidasan award: Kavignar Thamarai


MGR award: Actor Ajithkumar


Kannadasan award: Kavignar Pa. Vijai


Sivaji Ganesan award: Actor Vikram


Tyagaraja Bhagavathar Award: T.M. Soundararajan.


Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will present the awards and prizes at a function to be held in Chennai soon. Actors Vijay (Thirupachi), Surya (Gajini), Meera Jasmine (Kasthuri Maan), Karthi (Paruthi Veeran), Fakru and Sandhya (Dishyum) won special awards.
