'Thiruttu Payale' tops among Tamil films
May 16, 2006 Aparna NathChennai, May 16 (IANS) In the absence of big releases, Susi Ganesan's latest offering "Thiruttu Payale", a typical masala film, continues to have a good run at the box office.
The top five Tamil films are:
1. "Thiruttu Payale" - Director: Susi Ganesan. A former assistant of Mani Ratnam, Ganesan has come out with the biggest hit of his career.
2. "Tirupathi" - Director: Perarasu. The film is still running because of Ajit who plays the male lead. Otherwise, "Tirupathi" is one of the biggest disappointments of 2006.
3. "AIBI" - Director: Vijay Milton. This love story from Cheran's production house is a big let down.
4. "Pattiyal" - Director: Vishnuvardhan. Sure, "Pattiyal" is the biggest success of 2006, though collections have started sliding down. Great days ahead for the young Vishnuvardhan.
5. "Pachakkuthirai" - Director: Parthipan. Whatever critics may say about the film, it is doing well in small towns.
