Title case against 'Thuppaki' withdrawn

Oct 7, 2012 PGV

A City Civil Court on Oct.5 dismissed ‘as withdrawn’ the complaint filed by Ravidevan, the producer of ‘Kallathuppaki’, against the title of the film ‘Thuppaki’ directed by A.R. Murugadoss and produced by Kalaipuli S. Dhanu.

‘Thuppaki’ has Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in the lead. The shooting has been completed and Murugadoss is busy with the post-production work. The audio launch originally scheduled for Oct.6 was cancelled as the case was still pending disposal. In anticipation of the court’s favourable verdict by Oct.10, Murugadoss and Dhanu were planning to have the audio release function on Oct.11.

The ‘Kallathuppaki’ producer had filed his complaint in Chennai Second Assistant City Civil Court raising objections to use of the title ‘Thuppaki’ even while the film was in production. The court had granted an interim stay on the title. As the case dragged on with the court extending the stay from time to time, Dhanu had moved the Madras High Court seeking vacation of the stay, but the High Court directed Dhanu to go back to the civil court which granted the stay.

The case came up for hearing in the civil court on Oct.5 when Ravidevan filed a petition withdrawing his complaint. The court dismissed the compliant as ‘withdrawn’.

It is said Ravidevan has taken back his complaint on the request of Murugadoss. The ‘Kallathuppaki’ producer is quoted as saying that “Murugadoss is an excellent technician. I understand his problems as a filmmaker. The matter is now closed.” Click the Movie button below for more info:
