Director K. Balachander’s classic movies ‘Manmadha Leelai’ starring Kamal Haasan and ‘Thillu Mullu’ which was Rajini’s first full-length comedy flick, are to be remade in Tamil, producer Pushpa Kandasamy, who holds the rights to these films confirms.

These two big hits were considered trendsetters in their particular genres.” We are now working towards remaking these two films in Tamil. Their themes are not time-bound and will make sense to today’s audiences. We will retain the essence of the theme, but spin around a new tale,” Pushpa says.

She is currently holding talks with a few directors Asked whether there is any possibility of KB himself directing these films, she replied they are exploring all probabilities and it is too early to give details. Pushpa also leaves one guessing about the actors who will be reprising Kamal and Rajini in the remakes.

‘Manmadha Leelai’ is about a womaniser. Rajini’s ‘Thillu Mullu’ was a remake of ‘Gol Maal’. Kamal did a cameo as a lawyer in this film.
