'Vaagai Sooda Vaaa' gets IFFI 2012 entry

Chennai, Oct 20 (IANS) National award-winning Tamil romantic-comedy drama "Vaagai Sooda Vaa" is one among the 20 films out of 144 eligible entries, set to be screened at the 43rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2012.


The film, directed by A. Sarkunam, is the story of an individual who is driven by an ambition that only education for the underprivileged can take this country to greater levels.


Made on a shoestring budget, "Vaagai Sooda Vaa", features Vimal, Iniya, Bhagyaraj, Ponvannan and National award-winning Thambi Ramaiah in lead roles.


The 10-member jury, comprising Tamil director Suresh Krissna, southern filmmakers Katte Ramachandra and Kireedam Unni and many others took 21 days to finalise the selections.


The 20 selected films include five Malayalam, three Bengali, two Marathi and one film each in Byari, Bhojpuri, Konkani, Kannada, English, Punjabi and Tamil.


The 43rd IFFI will take place in Goa Nov 20-30.


The Assamese film "Baandhon" has been chosen as the opening feature film in the Indian panorama section.
