'Vana Yudham' still out of the woods

‘Vana Yudham’, the life story of the slain forest brigand Veerappan, is still out of the woods. Its trouble started from the day its producer and director A.M.R. Ramesh announced the project.

It was last heard that court had vacated the stay obtained by Veerappan’s wife Muthulakshmi and the film awaited clearance by the Censor Board. What is holding up the film’s release is said to be Muthulakshmi’s dilly- dallying. A couple of days ago, according to Ramesh, the court directed Muthulakshmi that she should submit proof to substantiate her allegations that certain scenes tarnished her and her daughter’s image. For this “she should watch the movie first”.

Ramesh had organized a special screening of the film at a preview theatre in Chennai last Sunday for Muthulakshmi, but she did not show up. Had she watched the film, she would have been convinced that there are no scenes in the film that tarnished her or her daughter’s image. “Only if she watches the movie will she come to know that the truth is far from what she is claiming,” Ramesh said. The film’s censorship is also getting delayed because of Muthulakshmi. Promising to watch the film and then failing to turn up is not right”, he added.

The Kannada version of the film titled ‘Attahasa’ has been cleared by the Censor Board and given a U/A certificate. Ramesh has organized a special screening for Nakkeeran Gopal, who acted as a mediator to get Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar released from the custody of Veerappan who had the actor abducted and held him captive for more than a month. Ramesh would also hold a special show for the Rajkumar family also.
