'Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu' tops pre-Diwali Tamil films

Chennai, Oct 17 (IANS) "Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu" continues to be at the top position, and it is so because there were no new releases in the last few weeks. However, seven new films are expected to create fireworks at the box office from the coming week onwards.

The top five Tamil films are:

1. "Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu" - Director: Gowtham Menon. So far, this violent film starring Kamal Haasan is the biggest success of 2006. Kamal's last release was "Mumbai Express".

2. "Em Magan" - Director: Thirumagan. Slow and steady wins the race - that is what this film's success shows. There was not much fanfare when the film was first released but now it has turned out to be a big hit.

3. "Perarasu" - Director: Udhayan. The success of a Vijayakanth starrer after a long time might have made his cadres very happy. Coming up for a Diwali release is his "Dharmapuri".

4. "Thimiru" - Director: Tarun Gopi. With "Thimiru", the new action hero Vishal has scored a hat trick.

5. "Sillunu Oru Kathal" - Director: N. Krishna. The film stays on the list just because there are no new releases.
