'Anand' an unconventional success

Hyderabad, Dec 15 (IANS): "Anand", with its unconventional theme, tops the fortnight's list of Telugu movies.

1. "Anand": Young Turk Sekar Kammula's bold theme of a girl walking out of her marriage to protect her self-esteem has successfully sustained the interest of audiences. The delightful classical compositions and the legendary Veturi's matching lyrics constitute another USP of the film.

2. "Sooriyam": Mohan Babu's sibling Vishnu seems to have arrived as a new action star with his second release garnering good collections. Breathtaking action and good dancing have helped the film, but the poor storyline could scuttle its chances.

3. "Shankardada M.B.B.S.": Despite a big hype about a song being added to the film, the collections are not going up. But for Chiranjeevi's record-breaking openings and charisma, the tale of a fake medico would have flopped.

4. "Aa Naluguru": Despite a wonderful performance by Rajendraprasad as an idealist, the film is tottering. Director Chandra Siddarth, inspired by "Citizen Kane", makes a mockery of the original.

5. "Sakhiya": The picturesque love story is losing ground gradually due to an unrealistic plot. Tarun should come out of this 'boy-meets-girl' syndrome to revive his career. Even the luck of veteran director Jayanth may not help this film for long.
