Boxoffice - Telugu top 5 movies
Nov 15, 2004 IANS Nov 15Hyderabad, Nov 15 (IANS): Telugu cinema witnessed a lacklustre Diwali with none of the releases registering a hit. "Shankardada M.B.B.S." continues to remain on top of the fortnight's list.
1. "Shankardada M.B.B.S.": After its record-breaking opening, Chiranjeevi's comic caper is sliding down, but remains at the top slot with no competition from new films. Except for Chiranjeevi's performance, the film has no other USP. Its music lacks repeat value and the film does not have breathtaking action normally associated with Chiranjeevi's films.
2. "Chanti": This is a typical Ravi Teja kind of film and predictably it drew good collections on Diwali day. Director Sobhan relies more on Ravi Teja's image than on a solid plot. His casual dialogue delivery and punch lines hold interest. Its prospects after the holiday season are not predictable.
3. "Yuvasena": This re-make of Malayalam film "4 the People" has evoked a mixed response, though it is attracting the youth. The plot is reminiscent of "Tagore", but the treatment is different. Jayaraj, in his debut film, has not adapted the original film to suit the taste of the Telugu audience.
4. "7 G Brindavan Colony": Among the Diwali releases, this stands out thematically. The tragic mood of the film, however, could mar its chances. Director Selvaraghavan delivers a captivating love saga, but it has evoked a mixed response. Viewers seem to be enjoying the lively first half, with the second half leaving them uneasy.
5. "Swaraabhishekam": The much-hyped comeback film of K. Viswanath leaves the audience in despair. The theme and screenplay lack any novelty. Except for the performances of Srikanth and the director himself, the film has nothing to offer viewers, to judge by its box-office showing.
