Hyderabad, Jan 1 (IANS) Director Krishna Vamsi's recently released "Rakhi", which focuses on atrocities against women, has been received well at the box office and the filmmaker is on cloud nine.

"I am very happy as I am receiving good response from all sections of the audience. I have great respect for women and can't imagine a world without them. I am moved by atrocities against them," Vamsi told IANS in an interview.

He was toying with the idea for last 12 years. "I instantly liked the plot narrated by novelist Radhakrishna 12 years ago. I was just waiting for the right hero and found him in NTR Junior."

The director is quite impressed with NTR Junior and said: "I have worked with actors of the calibre of Shah Rukh Khan and Nana Patekar. But NTR Junior, who is only 23, has been a revelation. We all know that he is a good dancer, but I also found him to be a good singer as well."

Excerpts from an interview:

How do you feel about delivering a smashing hit? What was the inspiration behind it?

I am very happy as I am receiving good response from all sections of the audience. I have great respect for women and can't imagine a world without them. I am moved by atrocities against them. I instantly liked the plot narrated by novelist Radhakrishna 12 years ago. I was just waiting for the right hero and found him in NTR Junior.

How was it working with a star like NTR Junior?

It was quite exciting to work with a real bundle of talent. I have worked with actors like Shah Rukh Khan and Nana Patekar but NTR Junior, who is only 23, turned out to be a revelation.

I couldn't work with legendary NTR (N.T. Ramarao) but now I am satisfied as I got to work with his grandson. I could discover traces of his grandfather in him. We all know that he is a good dancer, but I discovered that he is a good singer as well.

You could have avoided being too preachy in the film.

I feel that the message conveyed was necessary and measured. We dealt with various issues affecting women like dowry killings and girl child abuse by parents and siblings.

Any experiences while making the film that you cherish?

Yes. Working with Kota Srinivasa Rao and Suhasini had been a wonderful experience. Despite being a director herself and also the wife of a great filmmaker (Mani Ratnam), Suhasini's keenness to get her emotions "closer to reality" impressed me.
