Mahesh magic takes 'Athadu' to the top

Hyderabad, Sep 7 (IANS) Teen sensation Mahesh Babu's anger-driven "Athadu" has sustained its tempo at the box office after its record-breaking opening despite a familiar plot. It tops this fortnight's list.

The top five Telugu films are:

1. "Athadu": Mahesh's performance and slick action are drawing repeat audiences, besides launching Trivikram as a star filmmaker.

2. "Andhrudu": The film's big opening left many surprised but Gopichand of "Yagnam" fame re-establishes his action image. The unique Bihari backdrop and slam-bang climax have made it a winner particularly in B and C centres.

3. "A Film By Arvind": The realistic thriller has crossed 50 days comfortably. Director Sekar's Suri's unique plot and gripping narration have made a winner out of a non-star-cast film.

4. "Super": After a good opening, the film's collections are dipping. Director Puri disappoints Nag with a flop.

5. "Grahanam": The film is included in the list not because it has had a good opening, but purely for its craftsmanship. It fetched a National Award for debutant director Mohana Krishna who adapted revered writer Chalam's novel brilliantly. A great piece of work from a trailblazer.
