Overwhelming response was surprising: Bhaskar

Hyderabad, Sep 15 (IANS) An overwhelming response to his first Telugu film about father-son conflict - "Bommarillu" - has surprised director Bhaskar.

"I did anticipate its success, but the overwhelming response has come as a pleasant surprise. I thank producer Raju for giving me this break and the audience for enjoying my style of narration," Bhaskar told IANS.

Critics and industry experts have hailed him as a sensational find and showered praise on his feel-good entertainer starring hot pair Siddartha and Genelia.

Before making his mark with "Bommarillu", the young director struggled for six years. "The maiden success has come as a sweet experience, making up for all the bitter struggles."

He is now making another film for the same producer.

Excerpts from a chat with Bhaskar:

Did you anticipate a huge success for "Bommarillu"?

I did anticipate its success but the overwhelming response from the audience has come as a pleasant surprise. I thank producer Raju for giving me this break and audience for enjoying my style of narration.

Many tell me that the film about a father-son relationship has triggered off introspection in many families.

How did you find this story about father-son conflict?

I had a rough sketch of the story for a long time, but I was busy preparing other scripts. When I casually narrated this plot to the producer, he readily agreed and I finished the screenplay in no time. We have succeeded because we have presented points of view of both, the father and the son, convincingly.

Don't you think that the part of the film where Genelia stays at a stranger's house is a bit unrealistic?

We did everything to make it convincing. The audience verdict gas gone in our favour, I guess.

How do you look back on your run-up to "Bommarillu"?

After finishing my diploma in film technology, I had to struggle for six long years before getting this break. However, the maiden success has come as a sweet experience, making up for all the bitter struggles.

Any future projects?

I am going to do another film for producer Raju and the script is under preparation. I have not signed any other films because I want to be selective.
