Realistic 'Anand' rules Telugu boxoffice
Dec 2, 2004 IANS Dec 2Hyderabad, Dec 2 (IANS): A multiplex film has grabbed the top slot among the fortnight's top five Telugu films, with a musically strong tragedy coming a close second.
The following are the top five Telugu films:
1. "Anand": Director Sekar Kammula's simple love story has been grabbed the audience's imagination and it is expected to collect double its investment. Besides re-launching Raja, it has also evoked interest in realistic cinema. Others may follow with more mutliplex films.
2. "7-G Brindavan Colony": Producer A.M. Ratnam should be a happy man since he has launched his son A.M. Ravirishna with this tragic love story. Besides critical acclaim, it is also giving him a handsome return on his investment. It gradually picked up after big films faded out. Yuvan's peppy score and good lead artistes' performances are holding audience interest.
3. "Shankardada MBBS": It is still holding on in more than 200 theatres, particularly in remote areas, after being released in 500-odd theatres. Chiranjeevi's comic caper has lost some ground after two sensational weeks. The Gemini TV's umpteen campaigns to prolong its run do not seem to work.
4. "Yuvasena": This remake of Malayalam hit "4 the People" evoked some interest but lack of clarity in narration mars the show. The tale of four youths who take on social deviants could have been interesting but new faces have given it a dubbed-film look.
"Chanti": Ravi Teja should have realised that he needs a good story to carry on his image. Director Sobhan has dented his career with a pedestrian film. You cannot cheat the new-generation audience with just skin shows and mindless action.
