Sep 11, 2013 SV

It all started with Mohan Babu writing a strong letter to Tollywood big-wigs a couple of days ago asking them to postpone 100 years of Indian cinema celebrations in Chennai which is scheduled for the month end. The reason mentioned was that how Tollywood can be in a celebration mood when the state is in political turmoil and people are in big confusion due to the happenings.

The 100 years of Indian cine celebrations is being planned by all the four south Indian film industries and is a large scale event for which President of India Pranab Mukherjee is the chief guest. Now this letter seems to have sent shock waves to all the other three language industries since Tollywood has major participation and usually have maximum representation for such events. The organizers are in dilemma since most of the Tollywood people are also of Mohan Babu’s opinion.

After the announcement AP state bifurcation and separate Telangana state, the whole state is on high alert. Seeemandhra region is boiling with Samaikyandhra agitation. Considering the turbulent times the state is in, Mohan Babu expressed that it would not be apt for the film industry to celebrate such an event in Chennai.

Considering the intensity of situation and genuineness of proposal, MAA association has decided notto participate in the cultural programmes in the festival. MAA members will just participate in the felicitation programmepresided by President Pranab Mukherjee.
