The life of sports player like Sania Nehwal and PV Sindhu are soon going to be documented in biopics, and now we hear that Viacom18 Motion Pictures will be making a movie on the captain of the Indian Women's cricket team, Mithali Raj.
For those living under the stone, Mithali Raj, is an Indian cricketer who has set a phenomenal record of being the highest run scorer in One Day Internationals averaging above 51 and has had a remarkable journey on field. The rights of her film have been acquired by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, the studio that backed some great sports biopics as well as women oriented films like ‘Mary Kom’, ‘Bhaag Milkha Bhaag’ and ‘Queen.’
Ajit Andhare, COO of Viacom18 Motion Pictures confirmed the news in a statement. He said, “Viacom18 Motion Pictures has always been the pioneer in showcasing content with the portrayal of strong women characters right from Queen to Kahaani and Mary Kom. We are proud to be collaborating with the young and inspirational Mithali Dorai Raj, a name that's single-handedly responsible for bringing about a shift in the way the women's cricket team was perceived in our country.”
Mithali Raj is equally excited about the project and said, “I am extremely happy with this association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. I'm hoping that this movie inspires more people especially young girls to take up sports as a career.”
We are definitely looking forward to see who will play Mithali Raj onscreen.
