Priyadarshan on the criticism on National Awards

Apr 12, 2017 JB

The 64th National Awards were announced recently and it was met with a lot of mixed responses from the filmmakers in India. Director AR Murugadoss tweeted, “#NationalAwards Can clearly witness the influence & partiality of people in jury, it's biased”. There was also a divided opinion about Akshay Kumar winning the award instead of Aamir Khan in Dangal.

Priyadarshan in a recent interview clarifies these things. On Aamir Khan not considered for Dangal, Priyan says, “When Taare Zameen Par was given the National award in 2008, Aamir Khan never attended the ceremony and yet he went to the Oscars when Lagaan was nominated. I am not commenting on that further as that is his stance. But when someone says that he will not be accepting the award even before he gets it, that's slap on the face of the jury”.

About AR Murugadoss’s comment, Priyadarshan says, “Director AR Murugadoss commented that the jury was biased and I don't think he has seen any film that had won an award. How can he make such a comment without viewing these movies?” Click the Movie button below for more info:
